| Pet Adoption is being urged by a city that may soon ban pet shops.
West Hollywood in California has already approved a proposal prohibiting the sale of cats and dogs in stores.
Today (February 16th), it will put forward the legislation again and, if successful, the law will become effective from March 19th this year.
The aim, explained council member Jeffrey Prang, is to rid the city of puppy mills and "assembly-line animal breeders" who contribute towards animal cruelty.
"I urge those seeking pet companionship to consider adoption from municipal shelters and other nonprofit rescue agencies," he added.
This is not the only time West Hollywood has taken a stance against unethical breeding and pet health care.
It was also the first city in the US to ban cat declawing.
Those considering dog adoption may want to start by thinking about what type of breed is most suitable for their household and family. |
